Roche Tower Basel
The construction of the new Building 1 office tower marked the start of the modernisation and development of the Roche site in Basel. Beginning in 2104, various existing buildings are to be modernised and others constructed within the space of less than ten years. Designed by architects Herzog & De Meuron, "Building 1" has an unmistakeable wedge shape and rises in even steps on the west side. The 178-metre-high, 41-storey building accommodates over 2,000 employees in various Roche departments who were previously spread across the city at different locations.
Work performed:
Supply and installation of a total of approximately 48,000 m2 of floor systems made from 725x725 mm mineral fibre panels as access flooring for the loose laying of carpet tiles and as hollow flooring/composite access flooring with parquet laid by the customer. A further approximately 1,000 m2 of access flooring was installed with a linoleum covering applied to the panels.
The strict logistics regime at the high-rise site posed particular challenges for the Lenzlinger project management team and the installers. Materials could only be delivered after filling out a prior online application and were not allowed to exceed the amount that could be installed within two days. The special format of the floor panels with a unit weight of around 30 kg also tested the physical capacities of the installation team.
